German specialty marque Artega has debuted an electric variant of its mid-engined GT model called the Artega SE (Sport Electric). This Electric Sports Car Concept was made by a German automaker. At the 81st Geneva Motor Show from 1-13 March 2011, Artega Automobil GmbH & Co. KG will introduce an electric version of its mid-engine sports car. “Our aim is to combine environmental responsibility with the passion for aut omobiles,” said Artega chief executive Peter Muller.

With this forward-looking project, the company headquartered in Delbruck once again demonstrates the benefits and strengths of its manufacturing plant. Technical expertise and quick decision-making processes have enabled the company to implement a completely new drive concept in a very short period of time. Artega has also cooperated with the Fraunhofer Institute, one of the most competent development partners in the automotive sector. The research organization bought two Artega vehicles more than a year ago to test their feasibility as electrically powered cars.

Wiesmann German sports car manufacturer showcased the design study of a twoseater, extremely purist, convertible sports car at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show  this week launched a new brand Spyder Wiesmann. The vehicle was described as a two-seater roadster and pure example of the next generation of serial Wiesmann sports car eccentric.
Powerful, ultra-light and purist, the 2011 Wiesmann Sport Cars Spyder Concept is the essence of Wiesmann's philosophy. With a kerb weight of less than 1000 kg, it accelerates from 0-100 km/h less than 4 s and makes a top speed of approx. 290 km/h. Basis for this excellent performance is a 420-hp V8 high speed motor which is powered by a 4 liters of engine capacity. You can recognize these numbers as digits, high speed V-8 motor show in the BMW M3, which is not surprising considering that BMW will find the official engine supplier for Wiesmann.
As for the exterior of the 2011 Wiesmann Sport Cars Spyder Concept, the two-seater has no doors, no windscreen and no wing mirrors. It’s also as low to the ground as a kart and features a massive pair of intakes at the front that make it look like Batman’s racing car.
“The 2011 Wiesmann Sport Cars Spyder Concept design study is based on the Wiesmann brothers' early designs, though it also incorporates their many years of experience in sports car construction. It demonstrates the sports car manufacturer's receptiveness to trends because many Wiesmann fans have approached the company founders in recent years with requests for an extremely purist model,” stated the official press release.

It also demonstrates that such cars can also be fun.  The feeling when driving the XL1 is truly dynamic - not based on pure power, rather on its pure efficiency. Two examples: 1) To travel at a constant speed of 100 km/h, the prototype only needs 6.2 kW/8.4 PS – a fraction of the performance of today’s cars (Golf 1.6 TDI with 77 kW and 7-speed DSG: 13.2 kW/17.9 PS). 2) In electric mode, the XL1 needs less than 0.1 kWh (82 Wh/km) to complete a one kilometre driving course. These are record values.
Powering the 2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid Concept is a compact 800 cc TDI two-cylinder common rail diesel engine developing 47 hp. It's linked to an electric motor producing 27 hp, resulting in a total of 74 hp - a modest output yet more than enough when the low kerb weight of 1753 lbs (795 kg) of the vehicle is taken into account. Together, the TDI and E-motor deliver a maximum torque of 140 Newton metres in boosting mode.

Design for a new era: The VW XL1 is 3,888 mm long, 1,665 mm wide and just 1,156 mm tall. These are extreme dimensions. The Polo has a similar length (3,970 mm) and width (1,682 m), but it is significantly taller (1,462 mm). Although the 2011 Volkswagen Sports Cars XL1 (SEV) Roadster Diesel-Electric Hybrid is still very much a concept, its unveiling marks the next step towards the birth of a new class of Super Efficient Vehicles, while the advent of a process such as RTM is a significant milestone.
